Norval D. (John) Settle specializes in mediation of EEO and workplace disputes. He is certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia as a mediator and Mentor Mediator. He is a member of the Virginia Bar, and "Of Counsel" to the Alexandria, Virginia, employment law firm of Riselli and Pressler. He holds the designation of Advanced Workplace Mediator awarded by the Association for Conflict Resolution. John is a contract mediator for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and is on the rosters of mediators for the U.S. Navy, Air Force, NASA, the World Bank, and Curtis Lewis and Associates. He has mediated hundreds of disputes for private companies and government agencies. John was named "Mediator of the Year" in 2000 by the Northern Virginia Mediation Service, where he is a mentor mediator and trainer and teaches courses on mediating workplace disputes and other subjects. He is a past president of the Virginia Mediation Network, and is Virginia Governor Warner's civilian appointee to the State's Interagency Dispute Resolution Advisory Counsel.

John also specializes in teaching managers and supervisors (particularly in federal and state agencies) about management and leadership techniques for avoiding and dealing constructively with conflict in the workplace. A former senior federal executive, John was a member of the Executive Board of the Federal ADR Network and a pioneer mentor mediator for the Federal "Shared Neutrals" program. He received the Presidential Award of Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service. John speaks and trains widely on ADR subjects, and has written many articles on ADR. He has a B.A. in psychology from the University of Richmond, a Master's in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, a J.D. from American University (where he was an editor of the Law Review), and a Certificate in Environmental Management from the University of Southern California.

Kathey Foskett is a full-time practicing mediator and trainer specializing in Equal Employment Opportunity, workplace, business and divorce disputes with more than 12 years of experience. She travels throughout the U.S. to conduct mediation sessions and to present workshops, seminars, and training courses on ADR, mediation, and conflict management and resolution skills.

A Virginia Supreme Court certified general and family mediator, Mentor Mediator and trainer, Kathey also holds Advanced Practitioner status and professional membership in the Association for Conflict Resolution. She has served on many mediation and conflict resolution-related committees including the Northern Virginia Mediation Services Board of Directors and the 31st Judicial District Mediation Advisory Committee. She currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia Mediation Network. Kathey was named "Mediator of the Year" by the Northern Virginia Mediation Service in 1997.

Kathey is the author of Family Mediation Skills and Process, a training manual used in a law school mediation curriculum and local skills training programs. She earned a Master of Science Degree in Counseling from Western Connecticut State University.

James Meditz is a mediator and facilitator working with commercial, family, divorce, community and employment cases (including EEO) for federal and state agencies and private clients. He is certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia as a mediator and Mentor Mediator. Prior to becoming a mediator, Jim worked for more than 30 years in national security analytic and senior executive positions. He has worked with personnel from many federal agencies and the military services, and has participated in international negotiations. He retired from the Naval Reserve in 1994 as a Captain. He has current security clearances.

Jim is on the Board of the Virginia Mediation Network, and a member of the Virginia Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution and the American Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Section. In addition to his own practice, Jim is on the rosters of mediators of several organizations including the Northern Virginia Mediation Service (where he was named "Mediator of the Year" in 2004). Jim is coordinator of the Monday Night Forum, a professional development program affiliated with the Northern Virginia Mediation Service.

Jim has received specialized training, in Facilitation and Group Consensus Building, Facilitating Public Disputes, Problem Solving in Organizations, Complex and Multiparty Civil Cases, Federal Workplace Mediation, and other subjects. He has an MA degree in International Relations from Boston University and a BA in Chemistry from JNC-Chapel Hill. He is a graduate of the National Defense University / National War College and the OPM Federal Executive Institute.

Linda Toyo Obayashi is a mediator and attorney admitted to the bars of Maryland, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. She has mediated hundreds of employment, corporate, commercial, personal injury, real estate and domestic cases. Toyo is a member of the Panel of Distinguished Neutrals of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution, and the National Association of Security Dealers. She also is on the rosters of mediators of several circuit courts in Maryland, Maryland's Child Centered Mediation Project, the World Bank, Curtis Lewis and Associates (serving the National Aeronautics and Space Administration), the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Maryland Commission on Human Relations.

Toyo is an adjunct professor at Howard University School of Law. She has provided training for many organizations, including NASA, the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, workshops at Loyola Business School and for executive MBA programs, the University of Baltimore's Law School, real estate offices of Coldwell Banker, Long and Foster, and Remax, British Broadcasting Corporation, and the American Bar Association.

Toyo is the President of the Maryland Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution and is a Council Member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the Maryland Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office, Business Initiatives Section, and the ADR Section of the Maryland Bar Association.

Toyo was a member of the Greater Baltimore Committee, Leadership Class of 2002. Baltimore's "Daily Record" named her as one of Maryland's Top 100 Women in 2003.

Toyo is a graduate of the Rutgers School of Law, Newark, NJ, and the International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan, where she earned her BA. Toyo is a third-generation Japanese-American who was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and grew up in New York City.

James Pope is a mediator, facilitator, trainer and consultant in conflict management and other subjects related to workplace conflict, employee relations and family law disputes. He is a member of the Virginia Bar, and a principal in the Arlington, Virginia, law firm of Pope and Pope.

Jim is Adjunct Professor of Mediation and Arbitration at Catholic University's Columbus School of Law, and has been a guest instructor in mediation at George Washington University Law School, Georgetown University Law School, George Mason University Law School, and Howard University Law School. He has led conflict management and mediation trainings in many settings, including, NASA, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (where he is a member of the USDA Graduate School faculty), U.S. Department of Commerce, Air Force, Navy, Virginia Supreme Court, Virginia Mediation Network, and the Northern Virginia Mediation Service. He currently is an administrative hearing officer for the Virginia Supreme Court, where he rules on state employee grievances.

Jim is certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia as a mediator and Mentor Mediator for general and family cases. He has a wide range of experience working with contractual, workplace, employment discrimination, child custody and divorce, and special education disputes. Among the organizations he has mediated for are the EEOC, the World Bank, NASA, the U.S. Navy, the IRS, NOAA, Forest Service, Postal Service, USDA, DEA, and the National Archives. He served as a mentor mediator for EEOC's mediation pilot program in 1996-1997.

Jim is President of the Virginia Mediation Network, and a past President and current Advisory Member of the Board Directors of the Northern Virginia Mediation Service, where he also is a mentor mediator and trainer. He is a past member of the Executive Board of the D.C. Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

Marcia Thompson is an attorney, certified mediator, trainer, facilitator, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) consultant, providing services to organizations and individuals in the areas of employment, workplace, juvenile justice, and family disputes. Marcia is a member of the Virginia State Bar and a sole practitioner in Alexandria, Virginia, where she handles legal matters involving juveniles and families, and criminal matters.

Marcia is certified by the Virginia Supreme Court to mediate court-referred cases and has mediated in various courts throughout Northern Virginia, as well as for community dispute resolution centers in Virginia and Maryland. She has facilitated and taught courses in the private sector and the federal government, particularly on workplace-related issues and law enforcement issues.

Marcia previously worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in law enforcement and intelligence, and also served as a collateral-duty equal employment opportunity counselor handling a variety of workplace and Title VII-related concerns. She helped resolve many workplace issues during informal stages of the dispute resolution process. She is an award-winning recruiter and lecturer/speaker on intelligence and careers in the intelligence area.

Marcia is a Certified Ethics Instructor for the Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing (COPS) program. She facilitates train-the-trainer programs for managers and line officers as well as community leaders and advocates, and helps law enforcement organizations develop curricula and provide training. She teaches on Advanced Criminal Procedure and Evidence, Employment Law, Ethics, Conflict Management Systems, and Law Enforcement Professionalism. Marcia is a member of the IACP Civil Rights Committee and the NOBLE Civil Rights Committee. She is a mediator for the Montgomery County, Maryland, State's Attorney's Office, and the Northern Virginia Mediation Service. She is a member of the ADR Section of the Fairfax County, Virginia, Bar Association.

Marcia has a B.A. Degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, and a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.
